Angelina Jolie has been touched by a baby photo and touched by a message to her mother, who died of cancer at the age of 58.
On May 9, the mother of world-famous American actress Angelina Jolie could have celebrated her 73rd birthday, but the woman passed away in 2007 from breast and ovarian cancer. It's been 15 years, and it's still a painful subject for the Hollywood star. In honor of her late mother's birthday, she released a touching post with a childhood photo of herself posing next to her dearest person.
Jolie posted the archived photo on her personal Instagram page. Under it, she left a heartwarming message to her mother.
As we know, Marcheline Bertrand struggled with cancer for exactly 10 years, but the expensive treatment did not give the desired results. The woman was diagnosed with cancer when she was 48 years old - this is how old Jolie herself will be in June, as she told her fans. The women in the actress' family are characterized by these two types of cancer. The star's grandmother and aunt also died of ovarian and breast cancer, respectively.
"My mother would have been 73 years old. She passed away 15 years ago after a long battle with breast and ovarian cancer ... I had prophylactic surgeries to reduce the odds, but I continue to get screenings. My mother loved Hendrix. And she always signed her letters Kiss the Sky (a quote from Jimmy Hendrix's song Purple Haze). It took on a new meaning after her death. Sending my love to those who have also lost their loved ones, and strength to those who are fighting for their lives and the lives of those they love at this moment. And to other women: please take the time to take care of yourself and get a mammogram, blood test, or ultrasound, especially if you have a family history of cancer," Jolie shared.
The movie star, after discovering at age 38 that she was a carrier of the defective BRCA1 gene, which increases her risk of getting breast cancer by up to 87%, and also finding that her risk of developing ovarian cancer was 50%, decided to remove the potentially dangerous organs. It was a very difficult decision, which had its own negative consequences, but Jolie went against preventive measures consciously, understanding that in the future can save themselves from an early painful death.
Even now, however, the filmmaker regularly checks herself and encourages women around the world to do the same. Jolie considers it her mission to tell society about cancer so that people could detect the disease in time and begin treatment.
