And she always signed her letters Kiss the Sky (a quote from Jimmy Hendrix's song Purple Haze). It took on a new meaning after her death. Sending my love to those who have also lost their loved ones, and strength to those who are fighting for their lives and the lives of those they love at this moment. And to other women: please take the time to take care of yourself and get a mammogram, blood test, or ultrasound, especially if you have a family history of cancer," Jolie shared.

The movie star, after discovering at age 38 that she was a carrier of the defective BRCA1 gene, which increases her risk of getting breast cancer by up to 87%, and also finding that her risk of developing ovarian cancer was 50%, decided to remove the potentially dangerous organs. It was a very difficult decision, which had its own negative consequences, but Jolie went against preventive measures consciously, understanding that in the future can save themselves from an early painful death.

Even now, however, the filmmaker regularly checks herself and encourages women around the world to do the same. Jolie considers it her mission to tell society about cancer so that people could detect the disease in time and begin treatment.
