Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban continues to pretend to be a peacemaker in the Russian-Ukrainian war. The head of the Hungarian government made yet another cynical statement that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Putin "need to meet" to end the war.

On the sidelines of the Ambrosetti Forum in Italy, Orban said that the presidents of Russia and Ukraine need to "establish communication" to end the war. This was reported by Politico.

When asked whether a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy was possible, the Hungarian prime minister replied: "Of course. It is necessary! The first issue is communication. If there is no communication, the war becomes worse and worse."

The publication recalled that in the first weeks of Hungary's six-month presidency of the EU Council, Orban tried to play the "peacemaker" on the issue of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, unexpectedly visiting Kyiv to meet with Zelenskyy and then flying to Moscow the same week to bow to Putin.

"In recent weeks, both Putin and Zelenskyy have said they would welcome mediators in discussions on how to end the war in Ukraine, but they do not believe Hungary is an option. Speaking at a panel discussion at Russia's Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok on Thursday, Putin said that China, Brazil, or India could potentially help in peace talks," the article says.

As reported by OBOZ.UA, after his trips to Kyiv and Moscow, Viktor Orban said he realized that the positions of Ukraine and Russia are very far apart. At the same time, the European Union denied Orban's amateurishness and emphasized that he did not visit Putin on behalf of the EU, but on his own initiative, so he could not represent Europe.

After Orban's unauthorized tour, a group of MEPs demanded that Hungary's voting rights in the EU be suspended.

Hungary's Minister of European Affairs János Boca sent a note to the EU countries stating that Budapest had terminated its "peacekeeping mission" in the war in Ukraine. However, diplomatic circles believe that Orban may organize a "peace tour" again when it is to his advantage.
