Nataliia Sumska talks about her daughter, whom she had to support completely

The legendary Ukrainian actress Nataliia Sumska has two children: a daughter, Daryna, and a son, Viacheslav, who also became an actor and works at the Ivan Franko Theater in Kyiv. Meanwhile, not much is known about Daryna – she does not use social media, and it is impossible to find her current photos on the Internet.

Speaking to OBOZ.UA about New Year's traditions in her family, Nataliia Sumska said that last year she managed to celebrate the holidays with her family, and this year she is expecting her son to visit with his chosen one, also an actress of the Franko Theater, Anastasiia Rula. But she was evasive about whether her daughter would be staying with her mother.

"My daughter and granddaughter will celebrate at home," says Nataliia Sumska. "The girls will gather there to weave and bake something. It's a good thing that they are joining Ukrainian traditions. My son Viacheslav and his colleagues perform the "Konotop Witch", touring cities. In addition, he is involved in other productions of our theater, and the dubbing work takes a lot of time, as there are many premieres. Maybe they could come to us for at least half an hour, it would be nice. And it's the right thing to do – you can't keep your children with you all the time."

Viacheslav Khostikoiev is the son of Nataliia Sumska from her second marriage to the famous actor Anatolii Khostikoiev. The actress's first husband was a cinematographer Ihor Mamai. Their marriage lasted seven years, and the couple raised their daughter Daryna. After the divorce, Ihor married another woman.

After high school, Daryna entered a variety and circus college and moved out. She worked as a soloist in the Academic Song and Dance Ensemble of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, but after six years she quit her job. "She was just a gem in that ensemble," Nataliia Sumska said in an interview, "and I helped her in every way possible, sewing her costumes, getting her other costumes so that she could sing every time. She was just wonderful, gorgeous, beautiful, she sang, she had all the talents, and she seemed to be created for this. Well, a person chooses his or her own path. She decided to step away when she got married."

Daryna's husband, a Ukrainian musician, founder, and leader of the "Yuran" band, Yurii Trokhymenko, passed away in 2017. And as it turned out later, the care of her daughter and granddaughter fell on Sumska's shoulders. Today, Daryna Mamai-Sumska is 42 years old.

"Now I take full care of my daughter and granddaughter, and I have to solve all the problems," the famous actress told the Star Trek program on the Ukraine TV channel a few years ago. She just lives in the world. She fully expects me to give her everything, all these opportunities. Her dad had the same feeling at one time, waiting to be invited, to be offered. He didn't go on his own, but waited for a favor from someone, to be invited to film, and so on. This is where we differed. I am a completely different person. I work whether they offer me a job or not. If they call me, I go. Any work is useful to me, any work is pleasant."
