"We are waiting for the first units tomorrow": Budanov spoke about the deployment of DPRK troops to Kursk region

Russia deploys DPRK military to Kursk region

The first North Korean troops are expected to arrive in the Kursk region on Wednesday, October 23. They will help the Russians counteract the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

This was stated by Kyrylo Budanov, Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in an interview with The War Zone. According to him, it is not yet known how many DPRK troops will arrive in the Kursk region.

"We are waiting for the first units tomorrow in the Kursk direction. It is unclear how many and how they will be equipped. We'll see in a few days," said the head of the DIU.

The information comes as South Korea considers sending advisers and offensive weapons to Ukraine in response to Pyongyang's deployment of more than 12,000 soldiers, including elite special operations units, to Russia.

The publication notes that Seoul has several defensive weapons systems that it could provide to Kyiv, "including the Cheongung-II medium-range air defense missile system, which could help Ukraine strengthen its air defense."

This system is also known as the M-SAM, or medium-range surface-to-air missile, which is already deployed in South Korea and is optimized to destroy lower-level ballistic missile threats.

In addition, South Korea as a manufacturer can also supply offensive weapons such as artillery shells, howitzers, tanks, and multiple launch rocket systems.

The presence of North Korean troops in Russia "raises the possibility that South Korea may decide to directly supply artillery shells to Ukraine, depending on the level of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea," the publication notes.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

On October 21, information appeared online that the enemy had allegedly hung a DPRK flag near the recently occupied Ukrainian village of Tsukuryno in the Pokrovsk direction. Andrii Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Political Analysis, said that the story about this flag was exclusively an element of information operations.

Last week, South Korean intelligence found that 12,000 troops arrived in Russia from the DPRK. Among them are units of special operations forces.

Earlier, South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun confirmed that the DPRK could send members of its regular armed forces to Ukraine to support the aggressor state of Russia.
