NATO Secretary General: Ukrainians have advanced, but fierce fighting awaits them

Stoltenberg commented on the Ukrainian counterattack

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commented on the situation on the front in Ukraine and the counterattack by our country's defense forces. He said that Ukrainian soldiers had advanced and made progress on the battlefield.

At the same time, the leader of the North Atlantic Alliance said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces were in for a "fierce fight." He was quoted by Politico on Wednesday, July 5.

He said Russia's occupation army has prepared well for the AFU's counterattack and has built serious defensive barriers.

"The Ukrainians have made progress, but they face a fierce fight. They face difficult terrain and face entrenched Russian resistance," the NATO secretary general said, pointing to "many defensive lines prepared in advance."

According to him, this greatly affects the pace of advancement of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. At the same time, Stoltenberg added that Ukrainian fighters continue to advance and make "some progress".

We note that the day before, the General Staff of the AFU said that the Russian occupation army is heavily entrenched on the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, the enemy has built a deeply echeloned system of engineering barriers. It consists of several obstacle strips, the length of which is up to 40 km each.

At the same time, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Anna Maliar said that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are actively destroying the enemy in the east of our country. In some directions the Russian military have already started to leave their positions in whole units.

According to her, the enemy has begun to use "barrier squads" and weapons aimed at the backs of their own, trying to ensure the stability of the troops.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL, according to the General Staff, on July 5 near Bakhmut and Marinka in the Donetsk region, Ukrainian soldiers repelled all enemy attacks. Ukrainian aviation carried out 10 strikes against the Russian occupiers.
