ISW: AFU advances in two directions, Russian troops unsuccessfully attack Andriivka and Klishchiivka
Ukrainian defense forces advanced south of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region and achieved partial success west of Verbove in Zaporizhzhia during their counteroffensive operations. The enemy also continued its offensive, with Russian attacks near Klishchivka and Andriivka being unsuccessful.
The situation at the front as of October 17 was analyzed in a recent report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Analysts said that Russian troops tried to advance at the Kupiansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, near Bakhmut and Avdiivka, southwest of Donetsk and on the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
The occupation army tried to launch counterattacks in the area of Kurdiumivka near Bakhmut. According to Ilia Yevlash, a representative of the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the enemy is moving reserves there.
Over the past day, Russian forces "did not achieve any confirmed success" near Bakhmut, ISW noted.
Geolocatable footage released on October 16 shows Ukrainian troops advancing northwest of the village of Zaliznianske in the Bakhmut direction.
There were no confirmed successes of the Russian Armed Forces near the city of Avdiivka, Donetsk region, although one of the enemy's "military commanders" claimed to have achieved unspecified tactical successes south of the settlement.
One of the bloggers of the aggressor country, who claims to serve in the Avdiivka direction, stated that the occupiers were "stuck" in their positions and tried their best to weaken the Ukrainian defense.
Our defenders continued counter-offensive operations in the south of the country. One of the Russian military bloggers stated that Ukrainian forces, supported by armored vehicles, advanced to an unspecified position northwest of Verbove.
The Russian Armed Forces apparently launched counterattacks in the west of Zaporizhzhia region, "but did not achieve any confirmed success," the Institute for the Study of War said.
