Fire at ZNPP stopped: what is the radiation level in the region

In the temporarily occupied Enerhodar , as of the morning of August 12, the fire at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which started the previous day at around 20:00, has stopped. The radiation background did not exceed the safe level.

The head of the Dnipropetrovs'k Regional State (Military) Administration, Serhiy Lysak, spoke about the situation. He posted a brief report on the situation in the region on his Telegram channel, mentioning ZNPP.

There is no longer any fire at the facility, the official said."The radiation level in the Nikopol region is normal. We are keeping the situation under control," he assured.

On the evening of August 11, black smoke appeared over the Russian-occupied ZNPP.

Energoatom reported that cooling tower number one caught fire and other process equipment was damaged. The probable cause is the negligence of the Russian invaders or deliberate arson of the cooling tower by the occupiers.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the world and the IAEA to respond to the provocation of the terrorist state at the nuclear power plant.

Yevhen Yevtushenko, head of the Nikopol Regional Administration, suggested that the Russians at ZNPP had set fire to a large number of car tires in the cooling tower.

IAEA representatives said that they allegedly heard the sounds of explosions and saw heavy dark smoke in the northern part of the facility.

As OBOZ.UA reported earlier, the International Atomic Energy Agency expressed concern over intense forest fires near Zaporizhzhia NPP. They stated that this jeopardizes the external power supply to the facility.
