Attack on Morozovsk airfield in Rostov region staged by SSU and AFU: new details

SSU and Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked Morozovsk military airfield in Rostov region with drones

The attack on the night of December 17 on the Morozovsk military airfield in Rostov region was carried out jointly by the Security Service of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The target was not chosen by chance when developing the plan of the special operation: the 559th Bombardment Aviation Regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces is stationed there.

OBOZ.UA learned about this from its own sources. According to the information we received, the attack was successful: enemy equipment was destroyed.

According to our sources, the attack on the Morozovsk airfield was carried out as part of a joint operation by the SSU and the Armed Forces.

The sources claim that the target was not chosen by chance: the 559th Bomber Regiment of the Russian Aerospace Forces is stationed there.

At the time when the Ukrainian drones arrived at the airfield, there were up to 20 SU-34 fighter-bombers there. In addition, the occupiers deployed 3 radar stations and other equipment at Morozovsk.

"The airfield was attacked by drones. Although Russia has traditionally claimed that all the UAVs were shot down, in reality, the Service and the Armed Forces of Ukraine inflicted significant damage to the enemy's equipment," the source said.

As a reminder, on the morning of December 17, the Russian Defense Ministry announced a massive night attack by "Ukrainian" UAVs on three Russian regions at once: Lipetsk, Rostov and Volgograd. The invaders boasted that they had allegedly shot down 35 Ukrainian drones on the night of December 16-17.

Meanwhile, Russian media outlet Astra noted that the target of the night attack on the Rostov region could have been the Morozovsk military airfield, where Su-24, Su-24M and Su-34 bombers are stationed.

Later, the Main Directorate of Intelligence confirmed the drone attacks on Russian regions and announced the defeat of a number of targets identified for destruction, without specifying which ones. At the same time, the military intelligence denied any involvement in the attack on Morozovsk, where the occupiers found fragments of drones.

The governor of the Rostov region, Vasily Golubev, was more reserved than the Russian Defense Ministry. He confirmed that drones had attacked Morozovsky and Kamensky districts in Rostov Oblast. There, the official assured, "most of the drones were destroyed." However, he was silent on what happened to those that were not shot down.
