Maguchikh criticised in Russia

Russian so-called journalists have issued another propaganda narrative about sports outside politics and demanded that the athlete Yaroslava Maguchikh be punished for glorifying Ukraine after winning the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. Our compatriot was accused of shouting a "well-known nationalist slogan" that has no place in a competition.

This is stated in a report by the Sport24 portal under the headline "Ukrainian woman shouted political slogans after winning the World Cup. Everyone pretended it didn't happen." Representatives of the aggressor country were outraged that Maguchikh picked up the patriotic greeting "Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!". The pseudo-journalists also called Yaroslav's victory lucky because of the absence of their compatriot Maria Lasitskene.

"At the award ceremony, the chanting continued. And it was started by the athlete herself. But none of the organisers or officials thought to stop this bacchanal. It's clear that no one will impose any sanctions on Maguchikh and her team for the interference of politics in sports, but a warning or fine would definitely be in order," the article says.

Earlier, Olympic champion Svetlana Zhurova said that Yaroslava Maguchikh was allegedly forced to "say nasty things" about Russian aggression.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Ukrainian long jumper Maria Bekh-Romanchuk won silver at the World Athletics Championships and brought our country its first medal of the tournament.
