"It's important for Tyson": Usyk's team commented on the situation with the deprivation of the absolute champion title

The absolute world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) has asked the International Boxing Federation (IBF) to grant him a postponement of his mandatory defense. The Ukrainian thus wants to retain the organization's title for a rematch with Tyson Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs), which will allow the rivals to fight again for all the belts of the division.

This is reported by the Bpxing Scene portal regarding IBF President Daryl Peeples. Initially, it was planned that after defeating Fury, Usyk would be stripped of the title of absolute champion, and the IBF belt would be put on the line in the fight between Filip Hrgovic (17-0, 14 KOs), who has long been a mandatory contender for the title, and Daniel Dubois (20-2, 19 KOs).

Now the Ukrainian boxer is asking for an exception, which is allowed by the rules. It is expected that the organizers from Saudi Arabia can influence Khrgovich not to insist on the championship status of his fight with Dubois.

"We are waiting for a decision. I think it's important for Tyson now, not Oleksandr. At the same time, I don't think it would be fair to both of them if the rematch is for only three belts. And just imagine, if Fury wins, he won't be absolute, so he'll miss the chance," commented Usyk's manager Egis Klimas.

It is known that Fury has activated the clause on immediate revenge with the Ukrainian. Bookmakers have already started accepting bets on the fight.

The media reported that Usyk cannot be deprived of the title of absolute champion due to a little-known rule. In addition, three reasons were given for why it is beneficial for promoters and organizations to leave all the belts to the Ukrainian.

Former boxer David Haye predicted that there will be no rematch between the Ukrainian and Fury. His compatriot Dereck Chisora started rumors that Oleksandr would return to the heavyweight division.
