Famous Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan met with the cadets of the SSU National Academy, where she has been working for a long time. Our Olympic champion thanked all the defenders of Ukraine, emphasising once again that one should not shake hands with the enemy.

Kharlan is convinced that professional athletes should also show the world that the war is ongoing and that these "neutral athletes" should not be on the international stage.

"And we will do everything to ensure that they are not present at the Olympics or any other global competitions. I am proud to be an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine, in particular, the SBU National Academy. And I am proud that the Russians know that I work for the SSU. Let them be afraid!" - the SBU press service quoted the champion as saying.

In response, the rector of the SBU National Academy, Andrii Cherniak, presented the athlete with the institution's highest award, the Badge of Respect.

"Olga Kharlan has demonstrated the main Ukrainian message on the world sports arena - no handshakes with Russians, only weapons! And only victory! This is a worthy and strong act of the SBU representative!" Cherniak said.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Kharlan defeated Russian Anna Smirnova in the round of 16 of the 2023 World Cup in Milan.

After the fight, our compatriot refused to shake hands with her opponent, who staged a real circus, refusing to leave the track.

The Russian representative lodged a protest against the outcome of the duel, which was rejected. The propaganda TV channel Match TV published a photo of the denunciation that Anna Smirnova had written against Olga. As a result, the FIE disqualified Kharlan from the 2023 World Cup, but suspended its decision the next day.

Our sabre fencer herself said that the decision to exclude her from the tournament simply killed her.

It should be noted that Smirnova is not a "neutral" athlete, as required by the competition regulations. The representative of the aggressor country's brother is a military officer, and she is very proud of him, as can be seen from their joint photos.

Following the loud publicity in the world media, the IOC also responded to the scandal by making a sensational decision regarding the Ukrainian.

Later, video evidence emerged that Kharlan had been disqualified after Russian pressure on the tournament organisers
