Waiting for an apology: Romania national team coach responds to the accusations of conspiracy against Ukraine at Euro 2024
Romania's head coach Edward Iordănescu called the accusations of his team deliberately playing a drew with Slovakia in the final round of the European Football Championship group stage shameful. This result suited both opponents before the match and ultimately cost Ukraine a place in the tournament.
In a commentary to journalists, Iordănescu noted that his players did their best on the field, ziare.com reports. According to the coach of the team, which became the sensational winner of the E quartet, his players wanted to win, but in the final part of the game they played for the result.

"There are savages who owe us an apology for the words they said before the match. I think it was clear to everyone that the teams did their best for 80 minutes, and then, of course, everyone had their own interest. Some people were talking too much before the match, lashing out at the teams. It was a shame. It was unpleasant. They should have just waited for the match to see everything. These people just tore us apart. Not only us, the team, but also our fans and the whole world. We showed that we have character," said Iordănescu.
Ukraine drops out of Euro 2024.
In Group E, all four teams scored the same number of points for the first time in the history of the European Championships. As a result, Ukraine was redundant in terms of goal difference and became the first team to fail to qualify for the playoffs with four points after the Euro expansion.
