Norwegian tennis player Ulrikke Eikeri has apologized for being paired with Russia's Alexandra Panova at the WImbledon-2023 British Open. The 30-year-old Oslo native was eliminated from the tournament together with the representative of the aggressor country in the second round.

In an interview with SVT Sport, Eikeri called it a mistake to enter the competition in London with the Russian, whose country is waging a criminal war against Ukraine. The 666th-ranked singles player and 55th-ranked doubles player emphasized her opposition to the Russian Federation's invasion.

"I'm really sorry. Looking back, I wish I had thought about my decision sooner, but unfortunately I didn't. I am very sorry for my choice given what is happening in the world. I am in full support of Ukraine. I am strongly against the invasion of Ukraine and I sympathize with the Ukrainians who are suffering," said Akery.
