The best Russian tennis player was booed after her match against Svitolina at Roland Garros. She responded
Russia's best tennis player Daria Kasatkina was booed after her match with Ukraine's Elina Svitolina in the 1/8 finals of the French Open - Roland Garros-2023. The reason for such a reaction of the fans was the refusal of the athletes to shake hands.
Kasatkina herself wrote about it on her page on the social network Twitter. According to the Russian, she respects the position of Svitolina, who had previously stated that she would not give hands to representatives of Russia and Belarus. She also urged the fans not to "spread hatred".
"Leaving Paris with a very bitter feeling. All these days after every match I played in Paris, I thanked the audience for their support for coming for the players. But yesterday I was booed for simply respecting my opponent's position of not shaking hands. Elina and I showed respect for each other after a tough match, but leaving the court like that was the worst moment of the day. Be better, love each other. Don't spread hate. Try to make this world a better place. I will love RG no matter what, always. See you next year," Kasatkina stressed.
Recall, Elina Svitolina defeated Daria in two sets and reached the quarterfinals of Roland Garros. After the match the Russian made an unexpected gesture to the Ukrainian.
On Friday, June 2, Elina defeated Russia's Anna Blinkova, and after the match she refused to shake hands with her opponent. Because of this, the fans booed Svitolina. Our tennis player responded categorically to such behavior of the audience.
Prior to that at Roland Garros, Marta Kostiuk from Kyiv was subjected to pressure. She refused to greet the Belarusian Arina Sobolenko, for which she was also booed.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, at the Roland Garros-2023 there was a historical event related to Ukraine.
