Russians refused to condemn the war and received a well-deserved "award" from the international federation
Russian weightlifters will not compete at the World Championships-2023, which will be held from September 4 to 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The relevant decision was made by the executive committee of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), despite the lifting of the suspension of representatives of the aggressor country from the tournaments.
This is stated on the official website of the IWF. At a meeting of the executive committee of the organization, the composition of the national team of neutral athletes was approved, which included 12 athletes. All of them represent Belarus. Also, eight coaches and one referee from Belarus will participate in the tournament.
In May 2023, Russian athletes in full refused to sign a declaration condemning the war in Ukraine. As a result, the IWF refused to admit the national team of the aggressor country to the Grand Prix stage in Havana. At the same time, athletes from Belarus put their signatures under the document.
Earlier, head of the Weightlifting Federation of Russia (FTAR) Maxim Agapitov called "a balaganum in the form of gray-mouse color" competitions without the symbols of the Russian Federation, accusing the West of conspiracy.
As reported by OBOZREVATEL, Athens-2004 Olympic champion in rhythmic gymnastics Alina Kabaeva, who is described as the mistress of Russian President Vladimir Putin, was ridiculed online after demanding to observe sports principles.
