Russian Olympic champion speaks nonsense about Russia's suspension ruining the 2024 World Cup
Two-time Olympic champion Boris Mikhailov called the World Ice Hockey Championship, which ended the day before in the Czech Republic, inferior. The winner of the Sapporo-72 and Innsbruck-76 Games repeated traditional propaganda narratives about the unfair suspension of the Russian national team.
Mikhailov said this in an interview with Russia-Hockey.ru. The former USSR national team forward accused the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) of spoiling the tournament, which became the most visited in history, by excluding representatives of the aggressor country.
"The Russian national team was not allowed to enter the Czech Republic, so automatically the tournament ceased to be interesting. I watched one period of the bronze medal match, two finals. Nothing interesting - neither cold nor hot. The level is average. Just like the level of the finalists. The sign for the main match was modest, and there were a lot of goals. But the most offensive thing is that sport has become a hostage to politics. In the end, they spoiled the tournament, which is so much appreciated and loved in our country - by fans and hockey players alike. They should have tried harder!" said Mikhailov.
The championship was won by the Czechs, who defeated Switzerland 2-0 in an intriguing final. In turn, the main favorites, the Canadians, were left without medals.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, an incident with the Ukrainian flag occurred at the World Ice Hockey Championship.
