Chess champion Amina Abakarova of the North Caucasus Federal District (NKFD) spilled mercury from a thermometer next to the board of her opponent Umayganat Osmanova at the Dagestan chess championship. The moment when the titled athlete tried to poison her rival was caught on video.

A girl who played at this table later felt sick, dizzy, and called an ambulance.

According to the Telegram channel 112, Abakarova said that it was an impulsive decision, related to personal hostility and had nothing to do with chess and the tournament. Allegedly, Osmanova said nasty things about Amina and her relatives behind her back. She did not want to harm her opponent, only to scare her.
