Refuse to hold: a loud scandal arose around the Euro 2024 qualifying match

The qualifying tournament match between Bulgaria and Hungary was at the epicenter of a loud scandal. The match was scheduled for November 16 in Sofia, but it is now unknown whether the meeting will take place, and the home team may be awarded a technical defeat.

This was reported by Sport.bg. The meeting was to take place at the Vasil Levski Stadium in the Bulgarian capital. However, due to the failure of the national team in the qualification for the continental championship, local fans were preparing a grand protest against the leadership of the federation.

The Bulgarian Football Union (BFS) appealed to its European colleagues from UEFA to move the match to Plovdiv and hold it in front of empty stands. However, the mayor of the city, Kostadin Dimitrov, said it was impossible to host the match due to renovations at the Hristo Botev Stadium.

The BFS is now considering organizing a meeting in Rozgrad or Kirjala. However, as of today, there is no approved plan and no approval from the local authorities. If the Bulgarians fail to solve the logistical problems and hold the match, the national team will be credited with a technical defeat 0:3, and the Hungarians will win a ticket to the Euros without a fight.
