"It does not mean that he is against Ukraine": Usyk justifies Lomachenko for "not speaking out against the enemy"

Usyk speaks out about the Lomachenko scandal

Oleksandr Usyk, the unified heavyweight champion of the world, tried to justify his godfather Vasyl Lomachenko, who promotes the ideas of the 'Russian world' on Instagram. The native of Simferopol noted that Loma supports Ukraine, and immediately after Russia's full-scale invasion, he joined the territorial defence of his native Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi.

Usyk said this in an interview with the Polish media outlet Przegląd Sportowy. Oleksandr noted that his godfather really receives a lot of hatred because he does not speak out against the aggressor. At the same time, the heavyweight clarified that Vasyl is almost silent, posting about Instagram, but forgot about posts with pro-Russian narratives.

"Vasyl hardly speaks at all - look at his Instagram account. However, on the first day of the war, he joined the army. And if he does not say something out loud, it does not mean that he is against Ukraine. He is for Ukraine. However, the war continues. And many people are not so much annoyed as sickened by what is happening. Every day there are victims, someone dies. And, probably, for this reason, people are angry with Vasyl for not speaking out against the enemy. As a result, there is hate. But I want to emphasise that Vasyl is a Ukrainian who supports his country. He has supported it and will continue to do so," Usyk said.

As a reminder, Lomachenko has repeatedly angered Ukrainians. For example, on Instagram, he posted a video of the Ukrainian Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ), which covers the situation with the protests near the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. Vasily showed some Ukrainians as "spiritually sick people who can only be pitied".

Before Lomachenko, he posted a propaganda video on his page showing what happened in the days of "militant atheism". For this purpose, the video's creators inserted footage of destroyed churches in the capital of Ukraine during the Second World War.

As a result, Lomachenko was added to the list of state traitors by the Chesno project. The reason for adding the boxer to the register was the publication on Instagram of a video of a sermon by Metropolitan Longin, a bishop of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate, in which he accused Ukraine of an alleged war against the church and faith.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, former Ukrainian national footballer Artem Fedetsky harshly criticised Vasyl Lomachenko for his position and told the truth about the boxer's relationship with Oleksandr Usyk.
