Shunin speaks out about the war

Former Russian goalkeeper Anton Shunin believes that his country's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 cannot be considered a full-scale war. At least this conclusion can be drawn from his words about the mobilization announced by dictator Vladimir Putin in September 2022.

In an interview with the propaganda portal Championat.com, Shunin noted that at that time he and his teammates from Dynamo Moscow had thoughts that it would be "full-scale conflict." At the same time, he shamefully forgot that at that time the Russian army was pushed out of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, after which it became known about the war crimes of the Russian Armed Forces in Bucha, Irpin, and Borodianka.

"I can reveal a secret: when the mobilization started, some Dynamo players received draft summons. They were asked to serve and undergo a medical examination. When the mobilization was underway, no one really understood what to do: Russians with summons, legionnaires reading the news and not understanding anything. There were thoughts that maybe a full-scale conflict would start now. I remember that in February 2022, we were at a meeting in Turkey. When it all started, I immediately started thinking about my loved ones. I have a mother from Odesa, and my grandmothers live there. They are fine, but it was not easy," Shunin said.
