Zakarpattia-style steamed hombovtsi with jam: how to cook an authentic Ukrainian dish
If you don't live in Prykarpattia or Zakarpattia, you may not have heard of this incredibly delicious steamed dessert. Hombovtsi, a traditional Zakarpattia dessert, is something between donuts and dumplings.
Food blogger Emilia Yevtushenko shared how hombovtsi are made in Zakarpattia on Instagram. She also showed what filling is best to use to make the dish perfect.
Ingredients
- flour - 1 kg
- warm milk - 500 ml
- eggs - 2 pcs
- oil - 4 tbsp
- live yeast - 30 g
- sugar - 100 g
- salt - 2 tsp
Ingredients for the filling
- any jam
Method of preparation
1. Mix yeast with sugar until the latter dissolves, add a little warm milk, and stir.
2. Add sugar, yeast, warm milk, salt, beaten eggs, and salt to sifted flour. Knead the dough and let it rise in a warm place for an hour.
3. Roll out a layer (about ½ cm thick), add jam (you can even use plum halves) and make balls.
4. Put them in a steam cooker for 3 minutes.
5. Pour melted butter over and serve.
