Ukrainian women dramatically lost bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in rowing
Ukraine's women's rowing team finished fifth at the 2024 Olympic Games, which are taking place in Paris these days. The "Blue and Yellows", whose colors were defended in the sculls' double sculls by Yevheniia Dovhodko, Kateryna Dudchenko, Dariia Verkhohliad, and Anastasiia Kozhenkova, covered the 2000 meters in 6:23.05.
Our girls had a great start to the final race, setting a high speed and keeping pace with the leaders from the Netherlands. "The Orange team showed an incredible pace and gradually pulled away from their rivals, while the Ukrainians confidently held the second position.
After half the distance, the Ukrainian team was in third place, more than two seconds ahead of their nearest opponents. With 500 meters to go, the blue and yellows were also calmly heading for bronze.
However, the final stretch of the race, before which it became clear that the Netherlands and Great Britain would play for gold, completely turned the tables. Our girls lost their pace and let not only the Germans but also the Swiss get ahead, and were left without an Olympic award.
The fight for first place was even more dramatic. The British women incredibly rolled in the end by 15 hundredths of a second ahead of the Dutch. Only a photo finish could determine the winner.
