Old photographs remain an opportunity to look into the history of Kyiv and see how it used to be. In particular, thanks to a series of photos of Khreshchatyk and Horodetskyi streets taken in the 1900s.
The photos were published in the community "Club of Native Kyivans" on Facebook. Unfortunately, the center of the Ukrainian capital has changed a lot in more than a century.
"Khreshchatyk and Horodetskyi Street, 1900s," the post reads.
The published photos show the center of Kyiv, the old City Council building, Krutikov's Circus on Horodetskyi Street, and tram lines.
As a reminder, the Lvivska Brama ghost station of the Syretsko-Pecherska metro line in Kyiv is one of the most popular destinations for city diggers and extreme tourism enthusiasts. The unfinished facility of the Kyiv subway is shrouded in mystery and legends.
Until 1979, one of the forgotten symbols of old Kyiv could be seen in the place where the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian people is located today. The Elephant Fountain managed to survive the Second World War, but not the Soviet regime.
