The perfect apple strudel: how to make it so it doesn't fall apart

Strudel is a traditional Austrian pastry that has gained popularity around the world. It is made from puff pastry and is most often filled with apples. The dessert is served with ice cream or cream and garnished with mint leaves.

Ingredients for the dough

  • Egg - 1 pc
  • Warm water - 100 ml
  • Oil - 2 tbsp
  • Flour - 250-270 g
  • Salt - a pinch

Ingredients for the filling

  • Butter - 25 gr
  • Apples - 5-6 pcs
  • Sugar - 3-4 tbsp
  • Cinnamon - 1 tbsp
  • Breadcrumbs - 30 g
  • Nuts - 50 g

Method of preparation.

1. For the dough, mix the egg, oil, warm water and salt in a bowl.

2. Add the flour in parts.

3. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes and leave it to rest for 20-30 minutes while preparing the filling.

4. Prepare the filling. Cut the apples into thin slices and sprinkle with lemon juice.

5. Add sugar, cinnamon, breadcrumbs, nuts and mix until smooth.

6. Take a towel, sprinkle with flour, and spread the dough on top.

7. First roll it out, then stretch it with your hands from the center to the middle into a thin layer.

8. Put the filling on the edge, and brush the rest of the dough with melted butter.

9. Roll up the strudel with a towel, wrapping the edges of the dough inward.

10. Put it on a baking sheet seam side down, butter the top, and sprinkle with poppy seeds/almond flakes.

11. Bake at 180C for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
