An asteroid has fallen in the Philippines: locals recorded a powerful flash. Video
On Wednesday, September 4, over the Philippines recorded a bright flash - an asteroid fell there. When entering the Earth's atmosphere, it exploded and disintegrated into pieces before approaching the surface.
According to the Daily Mail, the speed of the celestial body reached 39,000 miles per hour (or 62,764 kilometers). Eyewitnesses who were lucky enough to observe this phenomenon shared the footage online.
The asteroid was first spotted just eight hours before it entered the atmosphere. This made it only the ninth object to be accurately observed before hitting Earth. It has been given the name 2024 RW1.
In the published footage, the asteroid seemed even brighter than the Moon.
The European Space Agency noted that the size of the asteroid was about one meter. Due to its small size, it did not cause any damage when it collided with the Earth.
