Ukraine does not pay attention to Russia and feeds countries around the world: Zelenskyy explains how the sea grain corridor works
Ukraine continues to be a donor of global food security for dozens of countries around the world, even despite a full-scale war and Russian terror. In particular, for more than a year of operation of the export maritime corridor, 70 million tons of cargo have been transported to various countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, and America.
This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He noted that thanks to the humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine, at least "hundreds of thousands of families and millions of people have received the necessary food" in Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen, and Sudan. At the same time, the country is increasing its export capabilities.
"More than 2,500 ships have left Ukrainian ports. The ports of Asia, Africa, Europe, and America accept our Ukrainian cargo. Countries from Egypt to Indonesia, from Tunisia and Libya to India, from Algeria to China have received our Ukrainian grain," the President said.
The export corridor was organized after Russia withdrew from the Black Sea Grain Initiative in the summer of 2023. After that, Russia began actively attacking Ukrainian ports, including the Danube ports of Reni and Izmail, with missiles or drones.
However, this has not prevented Ukraine from successfully supplying food to countries in need, and which are home to about 400 million people, according to Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Serhii Kyslytsia. In particular, last summer alone, it sent 1,300 ships along the new sea route, which exceeded the volume of exports for the entire year of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
