The world's largest international airport, King Salman International Airport, will open in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2030. The terminal is expected to house 6 giant runways worth more than $28 billion (over a trillion hryvnias).

The airport will cover an area of more than 57 square kilometers, 12 of which will be allocated for retail outlets, so people can shop while waiting to board. This was reported by Metro.

The airport is being designed by Foster & Partners, which also worked on the Midtown bus terminal in New York City and the new airport in Marseille. It will combine the current terminals of King Khalid International Airport, which has been operating since 1983.

Although the list of airlines that will operate at King Salman International Airport has not yet been announced, the construction is expected to create approximately 150,000 different jobs, from pilots to baristas. The new facility is estimated to handle 120 million passengers, with that number likely to increase to 185 million by 2050, and is part of an initiative to boost tourism in Riyadh.

The largest airport in the world is currently Saudi Arabia's King Fahd International Airport, also known as Dammam Airport. Opened for commerce in 1999, it previously served as a US air base during the Gulf War and now provides connections to 43 destinations. More than 10 million passengers fly through the airport every year, and 37 airlines operate here. It is also the third-largest airport in Saudi Arabia by passenger numbers.
