Netflix has released one of the most original films in recent years, "Hit Man", which is partly based on real events. The plot tells the story of a psychology teacher Gary Johnson, who started pretending to be a hit man to help the police catch potential killers who hire him.

Gary Johnson, played by Glenn Powell, is a lonely professor who lives with cats, loves to read and tries to live according to his conscience. His cooperation with the police has spontaneously turned into an important task – to help catch potential murderers who want to get rid of their relatives, enemies, colleagues, etc.

The protagonist suddenly becomes a killer and, after signing a verbal contract and handing over the money, waits for the police to apprehend the criminals.

Everything goes well until Gary meets a client whose life is being ruined by a tyrant husband. Instead of the classic scheme of handing the woman over to law enforcement, he takes her side and starts an affair with the victim of violence. However, her living ex-boyfriend does not give the couple peace of mind.

Which of these was real

The story of an undercover cop pretending to be a murderer appeared in the press in 2001. Gary Johnson was real and helped the police apprehend criminals, but he never had an affair with his client.

As the journalists found out, the three-time divorced man was interested in philosophy, lived with cats, and adored other animals. He never killed people and never questioned his good intentions. The director of the film managed to talk to the prototype of the protagonist before filming.

Unfortunately, he was unable to be present on the set because he died in 2022. Before the credits, you can see the inscription that Johnson was a Buddhist, a Vietnam War veteran, and "the calmest dude you could ever imagine." He lived for 75 years.

Reaction to the film

Critics, reviewers, media, and fans almost unanimously praised the creators of Hit Man for its original plot, incredibly talented acting, and a good balance between thriller, drama, comedy, and romance.

The main characters are said to have chemistry, and Glenn Powell was able to perfectly convey the character's character.
