One of the most beautiful routes in Britain will be closed for two months: what's the reason?

Road trips have become one of the most popular types of tourism in the world, as they allow you to easily choose and change the direction of travel, as well as not depend on transportation flights, hotels, and other tourist services. But fans of this type of vacation in the UK are in for some bad news.

According to the Mirror, one of the most popular routes for road travelers in the country will be closed for eight weeks. We are talking about one of the most picturesque, but also quite dangerous sections of the North Coast 500 (NC500) highway. The Belagh na Ba road leading to the Scottish Applecross will not be open in the evenings and overnight in September and October this year.

This road tops the rankings of the best, most picturesque roads in the UK. But it is also famous for its extremes due to sharp turns and breathtaking scenery that can distract drivers.

The reason for the closure will be technical work that a local fish farming company wants to do. It plans to extend an electric cable to its farm. The first stage of work will take place in September-October. Then the work will stop for the winter months and will resume again in February or March 2025. During this time, drivers will not be allowed to use the road between 8 pm and 7 am.

It is known that local residents are dissatisfied with such restrictions. Applecross authorities point out that this will have a negative impact on the profits of local businesses that provide services to travelers. It will also create problems for local residents who use the road to get to work early in the morning and then return home.

However, representatives of the fishing company promise that they will provide drivers with a convenient detour route through the coast. However, they say they cannot completely abandon the work, nor can they reduce the period of road closure.

The NC500 stretches for 830 kilometers and passes through some of the roughest, most remote and beautiful landscapes in the Scottish Highlands. The different stops on the NC500 offer different experiences, including spectacular coastlines, sandy beaches, mountains and lochs. There are also several castles, historic sites and villages along the route.

The entire route takes about five days to complete and is often ranked among the best scenic drives and road trips around the world. The route was also recognized with the 2019 award from the online publication Visit Scotland.
