Now you can't buy it anywhere: the unique Soviet-era product that has vanished from stores
Some of the products that were popular in the USSR may puzzle a modern person or a foreigner who has never been to the Union. Due to the shortage and great lack of various goods in the state, various wonders were invented.
However, not all of them were strange and wild, such as fish sausage. It had a specific smell and taste and was not very well preserved, so it was discontinued in the seventies. Instead, honey butter was very popular. OBOZ.UA tells more about this product.
Honey butter was made from two natural products: butter with a fat content of 52% and bee honey. The latter accounted for a quarter of the product. This butter was soft and sweet. It tasted and flavored according to the type of honey that was added. Thus, linden honey made the product light and delicate in taste, while buckwheat honey made it darker and more intense. This mixture was used both as a sandwich spread and for homemade cakes. You can easily make a similar product yourself by mixing the two substances.
But while the experiment with honey could be considered a success, chicory butter did not gain popularity. As you might guess, dried chicory was mixed into the fat. This plant has a very specific taste, but it does not go well with animal fat. That's why the product quickly disappeared even from half-empty shelves in Soviet stores.
