"Titanic" star Kate Winslet talked about kissing her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in the legendary scene on the ship. The on-screen chemistry between the characters was one of the factors that made the movie so popular.
However, according to the actress, the actual filming of the kiss was a "mess." Revisiting the famous scene in the movie during a conversation with Vanity Fair, Winslet said that it was not her partner who was responsible for the "chaos" but her makeup. Kate recalled how, after filming the scene, the actress's entire face was covered in self-tanning spots. DiCaprio, on the other hand, was noticeably "pale."
The actress also recalled how she hit her knee on the ship's railing several times, and it took her several takes for the cameraman to get the shot right. "It was a real nightmare," Winslet said, "Leo couldn't stop laughing, and we had to reshoot it about four times."
