Peonies are one of the most beautiful plants. Women adore them, so they will be delighted with a bouquet of these flowers.

However, unfortunately, cut peonies fade and crumble quite quickly. That's why the publication Useful Tips has told you how to store these flowers properly so that they delight you for as long as possible.

What to do with peonies before putting them in a vase

As soon as you bring the flowers home, keep them in a cool, dark place for a few hours.

The peonies will need to get used to the new conditions, so it will also be advisable to fill the bathtub with water at room temperature and put the plants in it to absorb moisture.

Immediately before placing the peonies in a vase, cut each stem at a large angle under a stream of cold water and make a 5 cm long cut on it with a knife. This will allow the flowers to absorb the liquid better.

Also, remove all the leaves from the bottom of the stem and get rid of anything that is damaged.

Where to place peonies

It is better to use tall vases of dark colors. Before pouring water into them, treat them with a solution of potassium permanganate.

Place the bouquet in melted or settled water. Put the vase in a place protected from drafts and exposed to diffused light.

Do not place peonies near fruit or heat sources.

How to fertilize the water for peonies

To keep the flowers looking fresh for as long as possible, you should fertilize the water in which they will stand.

Peonies are very susceptible to bacteria, so first add a little potassium permanganate, 2 drops of camphor alcohol, or one aspirin tablet to the vase to disinfect it.

Then you can add one spoonful of sugar and vinegar per liter of water to increase the resistance of the plants or add 200 ml of boric acid to the vase.

Additional tips

  • Change the water for peonies every day;
  • Cover the buds with cellophane overnight;
  • Do not put peonies and lilies of the valley, daffodils, chrysanthemums, roses, lilies, calla lilies and carnations in the same vase;
  • If yellow leaves appear on the stem of a peony, remove them;
  • If a flower has deteriorated before the others, it should be thrown away.
