Greek island offers a scholarship for moving there: what are the conditions
The dream of living a peaceful life on a picturesque Greek island can become a reality thanks to a program on Antikythera in the Aegean Sea. The island, located between Crete and the Peloponnese, invites new residents by offering a monthly stipend of 500 euros for three years.
The initiative is aimed at combating population decline and attracting young families, as most of the current residents are over 50 years old, the Daily Express reports.
Financial support and living conditions
Each family that moves to Antikythera will be able to receive a total of 18,000 euros over three years. In addition, free housing and meals are offered. The island promises a peaceful rural life with access to electricity and internet, although there is only one grocery store with basic goods during the winter months.
Unique community and opportunities
The island currently has only 45 permanent residents, creating a close-knit and friendly community. Particular attention is paid to attracting young families in order to restore youthful energy to the island and ensure its development. Antikythera can be reached by ferry from Crete or the neighboring island of Kythira.
History and culture
Antikythera is known for the discovery of the famous Antikythera Mechanism, an ancient Greek analog computer used to predict astronomical events. Found in 1901, it is considered one of antiquity's most important technological artifacts.
Natural beauty and wildlife
The island is famous not only for its historical heritage but also for its wildlife. Antikythera is an important stopover for migratory birds between Europe and Africa, attracting many ornithologists and bird watchers.
Life on Antikythera is a vivid example of how to combine the preservation of historical heritage with modern initiatives to attract new residents and develop remote parts of the world.
