"It was scary": Liza Hlinska told about the difficulties she faced during pregnancy and why she almost lost her twin daughters
Liza Hlinska, the winner of the second season of the MasterChef reality cooking show, who became the mother of two daughters, admitted that her pregnancy was quite difficult. The 41-year-old pastry chef had serious health problems, and doctors suggested that she remove one fetus because of her age.
She spoke about this in an interview on Alina Dorotiuk's YouTube channel. According to the star, she was ready to do everything possible to ensure that her children would eventually be born.
"At the first ultrasound, we found out that we were going to have twins. At first, I was offered to remove one fetus because of my age. They said it would be better to have one baby, because the other one could be removed at an early stage. I asked if there was one hundred percent information that something was wrong with me. The doctor said: "No, you're fine, but your age." I'm 41 now, I was 40 then, and for medical reasons, it is not advisable to have twins at the age of 35+," the confectioner said.
According to Liza Hlinska, the period of carrying babies was quite difficult, and at some point, there was even a threat of losing the children. The pastry chef said that around the 10th week of her pregnancy, she started bleeding. Then the winner of the MasterChef show spent about seven days in the hospital to be under constant medical supervision and avoid placental abruption, which would have caused a miscarriage.
Over time, Hlinska's condition stabilized, so she came home. However, the problems did not end there. According to the twins' mother, one evening she was lying on the couch and felt as if she were "lying in a puddle." Then the confectioner had a second heavy bleeding, and she thought she had already lost her children: "It was scary. But it was a momentary fear, and then it disappeared. I started to believe that everything was fine."
According to the pastry chef, she decided not to panic, but to get the necessary injection and take the pills prescribed by specialists. Later, the star went back to the maternity ward, and fortunately, nothing bad happened.
"My second trimester was going well. But in September, I went back to the maternity ward because I started to have swelling, protein in my urine, and high blood pressure. This is called pre-eclampsia. The threat is that when you have high blood pressure and edema, the baby stops growing. It does not receive nutrients through the placenta. The baby does not grow and does not develop. The only solution to this issue is to give birth. I'm grateful to the doctors because they "pulled me through" until I was 35.5 weeks pregnant. Then my babies stopped growing, they were two kilograms each. There was already a threat. I was transferred to the intensive care unit and then had a cesarean section. The children were also put in the intensive care unit," Liza Hlinska said.
