Court in Kyiv arrests Kremlin ideologue Chistilin, who was detained by the SBU the day before
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv has ordered the arrest of Kremlin ideologue Dmitry Chistilin. The day before, he was detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Moldova.
This was reported by Ukrainian media. The court imposed a preventive measure in the form of detention until December 4 without the possibility of bail.
According to the prosecutor of the Prosecutor General's Office, Oleksandr Safaryan, Chistilin is suspected of treason and justifying Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine. He has dual citizenship of Ukraine and Russia.
Chistilin's detention was the result of joint actions by the SBU and Moldovan law enforcement. Dmitry Chistilin is an assistant to Sergei Glazyev, a former adviser to Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin who played a key role in the occupation of Crimea and Donbas. Glazyev also developed the "Information Warfare Strategy" that legitimized Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, from 2016 to 2024, Chistilin constantly created analytical materials for the Kremlin, supporting the war against Ukraine and justifying the annexation of the occupied territories. Among his "merits" are publications aimed at conducting information sabotage against Ukraine, as well as assistance to Russian special services.
He was also actively involved in promoting the Kremlin's interests outside of Russia, organizing interference in electoral processes in Eastern and Central Europe. Chistilin participated in roundtables in European countries, where he spread Kremlin narratives aimed at reducing support for Ukraine from Western partners.
He was detained after participating in one of these forums.
He was suspected under two articles: part 2 of Article 111 – high treason committed under martial law; and part 3 of Article 436-2 – justification, recognition of the legitimacy, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Chistilin faces life imprisonment.
