How to get rid of mosquitoes: a cheap summer trick

We are used to mosquitoes being just a minor summer nuisance. They bite painfully and leave blisters that itch for days. Moreover, these insects can carry dangerous diseases such as malaria or yellow fever. Even though these infections are not widespread in Ukraine, the issue of fighting mosquitoes remains relevant. Who wants to itch all summer long?

Factory repellents and fumigators do not suit everyone. They can irritate the skin and contain toxic components. Therefore, OBOZREVATEL inquired about more environmentally friendly and safe ways to combat these bloodsuckers. One of them involves the use of a simple and cheap product that can be found in every kitchen.

It is a bay leaf. The aroma of the spice is not liked by many insects and they wish to stay away from it. Here's how you can use the leaves to repel mosquitoes.

Spread the leaves in the places where you spend time. Put a few on windowsills, in corners of rooms, around baseboards and behind furniture, refrigerator or food cupboards. As soon as you feel that the scent of the remedy has become weaker, replace the leaves.

Light the leaf on fire to get an effective fumigation. For example, if you want to spend an evening on the porch, put some leaves in a heat-resistant vessel and set them on fire. As they smolder, their smoke will keep mosquitoes at bay. The same fumigation can be done in the bedroom before bedtime.

Make a decoction of bay leaves. Put a few leaves in a pot and fill it with water. When it boils, turn down the heat and leave the liquid to simmer for at least an hour. The steam that will be released will be an effective repellent.

Light an aroma lamp with bay oil. If you don't feel like inhaling smoke, take an aroma lamp, fill it with water, add a few drops of laurel essential oil and light a candle in the lamp. This will fill the room with a pleasant aroma and keep insects away.
