Odious Zlochevsky is sentenced

The High Anti-Corruption Court has delivered a verdict in the case of former Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mykola Zlochevsky, who was convicted of giving a record-breaking bribe, after 2.5 years of trial. The defendant was sentenced to a fine of four thousand tax-free minimum incomes, equivalent to UAH 68,000.

This was reported by the press service of the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office. Importantly, Zlochevsky himself signed a plea agreement with the SAPO prosecutors.

In addition, throughout the trial and since the start of the full-scale war, the disgraced ex-minister has made contributions to help Ukrainian defenders at the front totalling UAH 850 million. These funds were distributed as follows:

  • UAH 174.1 million - for the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;
  • UAH 600 million for the Army of Drones project by UNITED 24;
  • UAH 31.4 million to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the NBU account.

"When deciding on the conclusion of this plea agreement in accordance with the requirements of Art. 470 of the CPC of Ukraine, the prosecutor took into account the unconditional recognition by the said person of his guilt in the criminal offence charged, the absence of material damage caused as a result of the commission of the criminal offence charged, as well as the existence of a public interest in ensuring a speedy trial that will ensure full and timely punishment," the court said in its decision.

Earlier, OBOZREVATEL reported that in 2020, NABU detectives detained several people during the transfer of a record bribe of $6 million. It was given for closing a criminal case against Burisma, which was owned by Mykola Zlochevsky.

After the investigation, law enforcement officials said that the materials were ready to be submitted to the court, and the three suspects were given the opportunity to read them. They are:

  • first Deputy Head of the Main Department of the State Fiscal Service in Kyiv (Mykola Ilyashenko);
  • one of the heads of a group of companies affiliated with the former Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources (ex-manager of Burisma Group Andriy Kicha);
  • former head of one of the departments of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, trustee of the former Minister of Ecology (Olena Mazurova).
