Nutritionist names two perfect smoothies to help lose belly fat

Smoothies make it easy to add more vegetables and fiber to your diet.

Eating green smoothies is a relatively new trend in nutrition. They are recommended for breakfast or to take with you in a bottle for a snack. According to the Mayo Clinic, this dish of whole vegetables or fruits with water or even ice cubes helps to saturate the body with fiber, while containing very few calories and a lot of liquid.

Unlike traditional vegetable dishes, the taste of smoothies can be easily improved by adding sweet fruits or berries. This will not affect the calorie content of the finished product much. Eat This, Not That! asked Lauren Manaker, a registered dietitian and author of healthy recipes, about the benefits of smoothies and asked her to name the best recipes for burning fat.

How smoothies can help you lose belly fat

Published in 2015 in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a study clearly shows the link between vegetable consumption and a decrease in visceral fat, which is fat that accumulates in the abdominal cavity. They are considered dangerous because of their greater impact on health than subcutaneous fat. The good news from the scientists is that even a small increase in the share of vegetables in the diet can start the process of burning these harmful deposits.

Dr. Manaker states: "There is no need to drink a green smoothie every single day. But in a challenging situation, drinking them can help you meet your need for vegetables and support your weight loss goals." Another advantage of a smoothie is the ability to fill it with additional ingredients to improve the taste and increase the benefits. For example, protein powder can be added to the dish to help meet the protein requirement and provide an even longer feeling of satiety.

As for smoothies to reduce abdominal fat, the nutritionist advises adding bananas and blackberries to them. In addition to containing as much as 3 grams of fiber, a medium-sized banana is an excellent source of potassium. And blackberries help increase insulin sensitivity and fat oxidation.

Two smoothie recipes for a thin waistline

Dr. Manacker gave two recipes that she has observed to help maximize the loss of abdominal fat. The undoubted advantage of this dish is that it is very easy to prepare: put all the ingredients in a blender, press the button, wait a minute, and the smoothie is ready. You can pour it into a glass and drink it. If you like, garnish the glass with an umbrella or a slice of fruit, like a cocktail in an expensive bar. If it puts you in the mood, why not?

Spinach, banana and berry smoothie

You can choose berries for this recipe to your liking, and replace them with fresh ones in season. You can also use frozen spinach in this smoothie.

  • 1 handful of spinach;
  • ½ banana;
  • 1 cup of frozen berries;
  • 1 scoop of protein powder;
  • ½ cup of almond milk.

Spinach, pineapple, avocado and celery juice smoothie

This smoothie has a "golden" combination of fiber, healthy fat, and protein. It provides a feeling of satiety for a very long time, contains a minimum of calories, and tastes great thanks to the addition of pineapple and mint. However, it is better to avoid canned fruit, as it contains a lot of sugar and makes the dish much more caloric.

  • 1 cup of spinach;
  • ¼ cup of diced avocado;
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh pineapple;
  • ¼ cup celery juice;
  • 1 tbsp of mint leaves;
  • 1 scoop of protein powder.
