Microwaving on the fridge may not be the best idea

If you live in a small apartment with a small kitchen, you may have faced the problem of placing household appliances. In particular, when there is barely enough countertop space to cook on, a reasonable question arises: where to put the microwave in the kitchen? The idea of placing the microwave on the fridge comes to the rescue. But is it really a good idea?

OBOZREVATEL advises you to think before putting a microwave on the fridge and weigh up the pros and cons. Here's what to consider.

Height of the fridge

If you have a tall fridge and you have to raise your arms above your head to microwave food, it may not be the best idea. Especially if you have to take heated soup out of the microwave, which can be easy to spill on yourself.

If you have a low refrigerator and the microwave is at eye level, then everything is fine.

Microwave dimensions

In addition to the fridge, you should also consider the size of your microwave. Modern microwaves weigh 15-18 kilograms, but larger ones can weigh more than 40 kilograms. Obviously, placing such a weight on the refrigerator can lead to deformation of its top.

Also, if the microwave is significantly wider than the fridge, keep in mind that one awkward movement and it can tip over and fall off the fridge.

Consider the power output

Before placing a microwave on top of your fridge, consider whether you can plug them into different sockets and whether one socket can handle two appliances at once. Refrigerators consume 100 to 250 watts, while microwaves require 500 to 1000 watts.

Make sure you have an outlet that provides the power you need.

Ventilation

Ventilation is extremely important for the proper functioning of your microwave and refrigerator. If the refrigerator is located in the corner of the room and is too close to the wall, it already lacks air, and if you place the microwave on top, the situation will only get worse. Lack of ventilation will affect both appliances. In particular, on how much current they will consume for correct operation.

Visibility

Speaking simply about comfort, the microwave, as mentioned above, should be located no higher than eye level. This way, you can see what's happening inside the appliance while the food is heating up, and you can also freely monitor the timer.
