What you can make from an old umbrella: original ideas

Yulia PoteriankoLife
Decor, dog raincoat, interior items, and useful little things: this is what you can turn an umbrella into

Despite the fact that umbrellas are made of durable material that does not allow water to pass through, it still rubs at the folds and begins to leak. In this case, it would seem that the only thing left to do is to throw away the old umbrella. But in fact, you can give it a second life, especially if its dome is made of a material with a beautiful print that you really love.

OBOZREVATEL offers several ideas. Almost all of them are suitable even for people who are not very familiar with needlework.

Decorative pillows

Printed fabric with bright colors or other images can become a beautiful decorative pillow. To do this, remove the umbrella dome from the base and cut it into suitable pieces from which a cover will be sewn. It can be one-sided because there is not much fabric in the umbrella. The second side can be made of plain textiles. You just need to fill the cover with filler to the volume you need and sew it up. Since such a pillow is not suitable for sleeping (its material is synthetic), it can only serve as an interior decoration.

A creative lamp

A small umbrella can be turned into a creative floor lamp. To do this, you will have to open it and cut off the handle. This dome can be used to decorate the finished floor lamp frame to your liking: with rhinestones, beads, fringes, etc. Or you can insert a base into it and screw in a light bulb. You can also hang an open umbrella upside down by the handle and decorate it with a garland inside: it will be even easier to make such a lamp.

Hanger from a handle

What to do with a handle? A beautiful bent handle can become a handy hook on which you can hang things. It is best to attach the handle to some kind of base: a decorative plaster or plastic wall figure. In this case, such a functional item can become an accent in the interior.

A sturdy shopper

If you don't like to decorate your home with pillows, you can turn the durable fabric of an umbrella into a shopper bag. The technology is the same: the fabric is cut from the umbrella so that it makes one or two rectangles (depending on the size of the umbrella and the desired volume of the shopper), and sewn with handles. One side of such a bag can be printed, while the other is plain. You can also sew pockets inside if necessary. Such a shopper will weigh very little and will be easy to fold.

Spring decor

An umbrella cane with broken spokes can become a door decoration in which you can insert flowers. Fix the spokes so that they do not stick out in different directions and place a small vase of water or a floral sponge inside the umbrella. All that remains is to hang the umbrella on the door and place a bouquet inside, say, of spring tulips, which are a good color match.

A raincoat for the dog

Finally, if your cutting and sewing skills allow, you can make a raincoat for a small dog out of the fabric of a broken umbrella. Such clothes will protect your pet from dirt in wet weather.
