Very soon in Ukraine, one of the most important holidays of the year - Easter, which will be celebrated on April 16. The most important symbols of the holiday are Easter pastries and eggs. Easter cake can be made from dough and cottage cheese, and the best way to dye eggs is safe natural dyes, it can be onion peels, turmeric, juice of carrots and beets.

Nutritionist Svetlana Fuss told on Instagram what natural dyes are the best to dye eggs with.

Top 7 safe homemade dyes

1. Turmeric and Ginger

Just add 2 tablespoons of turmeric and grated ginger to the water when boiling the eggs. You will get a very beautiful and bright color. And most importantly, turmeric is not only safe, but also a very useful spice. 

 

2. Ground coffee.

Bring the water and eggs to a boil and pour in the custard coffee. Cook for about 2-5 minutes. Take out and let dry.

 

3. Parsley and spinach

They will dye the eggs very well in a bright green color. All you need to do is add the chopped herbs to the water where the eggs are boiling. For a brighter color, you can leave the eggs in the water with the greens for 15-20 minutes. 

 

4. Beet Juice.

Grate the beets on a grater, drain the juice. Boil the eggs and then put them in a dish with beet juice, leave for 30-50 minutes. If you want a darker burgundy color, leave overnight. 

 

5. Juice a carrot or pumpkin

Squeeze the juice out of the carrot or pumpkin. Boil the eggs and dip them in the juice and leave them for 1 hour. You will get a very nice shade. 

 

6. Onion husks

Chop onion hulls or beat them in a blender, bring water to the boil, pour the hulls into the water and lower the eggs, cook for 7 minutes. Then leave the eggs in the water to color them well. 

 

7. Red cabbage

You will need 1 cabbage, 2 tablespoons of table vinegar, 1 tablespoon of salt and a few drops of vegetable oil. Boil the eggs. Put the cabbage into a pot, pour water, add vinegar, salt, stir and bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover and cook for 30 minutes. Strain the ready broth through gauze and transfer the boiled eggs into the ready mixture. Leave it for 2-6 hours. After 2 hours, the eggs will be only pale blue, and after 4-6 hours they will be a deep blue color. 

 

It is important to remember that before boiling eggs, they must be washed with a solution of baking soda!

Fuss pointed out that eggshells are porous and dyes can get to the whites, so you need to time them correctly when dyeing eggs!
