What should not be placed on top of the fridge: a mistake can be expensive
Given the modest size of our kitchens, we try to make the most of every surface in this important room. The fridge is no exception. In general, the design of the appliance allows for such use, but some items are still better off elsewhere.
OBOZREVATEL tells you what things do not belong in the fridge. And why it is better to find another corner in the house.
Any heavy items
Experts do not advise placing items weighing more than 5 kg on the fridge. This can damage its surface and completely disable the appliance. Also, do not place other household appliances in this way. Electromagnetic radiation can cross-damage all devices. It also disrupts the heat dissipation from the refrigerator.
Microwave oven
In addition to the fact that a microwave is too heavy to be placed on top of the fridge, the vibrations generated by the cooling unit can also be a problem - they can compromise the stability of the oven. In addition, both devices generate heat during operation, which means that they will overheat each other to the point of breaking both.
Pots of flowers
Branches of live plants hanging from the fridge can look very impressive. But the danger with this arrangement of flowerpots is the water that needs to be added to them. The slightest overflow and liquid can get into the compressor and other parts of the appliance. At best, this is fraught with breakdowns, and at worst, it can completely disable the appliance.
Cage with a bird or rodent
Small animal and bird cages are often placed on low refrigerators. This is not harmful to pets. On the contrary, the heat from the compressor can even be beneficial to them. However, food, litter, feathers and hair can get inside the appliance when you open the door. This is very unhygienic and can have a negative impact on the condition of the food or completely ruin it.
