Oleander, ivy and Cuckoo pint

Poisonous plants can fill flowerbeds and beds perfectly. However, sometimes gardeners are not even aware of the dangers. Aconite, for example, provokes cardiac arrhythmias, heart paralysis and respiratory problems, while the bright yellow laburnum can be fatal.

Some plants contain harmful substances and can even be toxic to people and pets. A list of poisonous plants that you should get rid of right away was compiled by Sante Plus.

Autumn crocus (Colchicum)

Colchicum autumnale is also called madow saffron or naked ladies. This very attractive flower with elongated purple petals carries serious dangers. The plant contains the poisonous alkaloid colchicine. 0.08-0.2% of the poison is in the bulbs, 0.03% in the leaves and 0.4-1.8% in the flowers. Even the seeds are poisonous, with a colchicine content of 0.5%. When ingested, colchicine causes vomiting and stomach upset.

Cuckoo pint (Arum maculatum)

This is an herbaceous plant that contains toxic substances. Arum causes skin reactions: irritation, inflammation and burning. Even swelling of the tongue and lips is possible.

Lily of the valley

Fragrant and delicate lily of the valley, a symbol of May warmth, is actually not such a harmless flower. The white bells hide a toxic substance that can cause allergic reactions, skin irritation and heart problems.

Ivy

English ivy that climbs the walls, frames doors or windows, looks very aristocratic and attractive. In reality, however, it is also known as Hedera helix, which is quite dangerous. Its stems and leaves are very allergenic and can cause dermatitis. The blueberry-like berries cause vomiting, abdominal pain or even hallucinations and seizures.

Oleander

Oleander is quite a popular plant, it is even grown as an ornamental indoor flower. But its stems, leaves and flowers contain glycosides, very dangerous for the heart.
