What dogs shouldn't be owned by beginners: special breeds

German shepherds, French bulldogs, and cocker spaniels can bring a lot of unpleasant surprises to an inexperienced owner.

So, your childhood dream is about to come true - you're finally getting a dog and you're already choosing a breed. Experts advise you to make this choice responsibly, focusing not only on the animal's appearance.

This is how Adam Spivey, a British dog handler and author of a popular TikTok account dedicated to dog training, named his top 3 breeds that are not suitable for an inexperienced owner. In his opinion, people with no experience at all should not adopt German shepherds, French bulldogs and cocker spaniels. All of these breeds are very popular because of their intelligence and sociability, but they have certain traits that can be an unpleasant surprise for someone who has a dog for the first time.

German Shepherd

These animals are really very intelligent, able to learn any skill and feel great in a family. However, this breed is prone to anxiety and requires a lot of effort to work with this problem. The German Shepherd's high intelligence means that it develops quickly, and an inexperienced owner may not have time to correct this feature - the dog will reinforce the defect. Then it will be much more difficult to correct it.

French Bulldog

These dogs are famous for their sociability and how well they get along with children. However, a little-known pitfall of the breed is its tendency to aggression against other animals. This feature should be corrected with proper training as early as possible. Other character flaws of the French include great stubbornness, which not everyone can cope with without training. Another feature is breathing problems, which often occur in bulldogs due to the structure of the muzzle. In rare cases, dogs of this breed even need surgical operations. An inexperienced owner may not notice the problem in time.

Cocker Spaniel

These are very intelligent and active dogs that are easy to train. But the fact is that the stage of educational work with spaniels should not be skipped - their innate tendency to keep themselves busy can result in the dog getting used to causing harm. For example, it will constantly destroy or steal things.
