"They belong to the country": Russian national team players offered to be "executed" if they play haphazardly during a "special military operation"
Former Russian national team goalkeeper Vladimir Gabulov has said that footballers should sacrifice themselves for the sake of the country when they play for the national team. He also called for the players to be "executed" if they do not show enough dedication on the pitch.
Gabulov expressed this opinion in an interview with the propaganda TV channel Match TV. The former Dynamo Moscow, CSKA Moscow and Belgian Brugge player, who has played 10 matches for the aggressor country's national team, said that the players "do not belong to themselves" when playing for the Russian national team.
"Footballers and coaches must clearly understand that not only do they need this to grow in level, the whole country needs it. When they wear the national team shirt, they no longer belong to themselves, they belong to the country for which they must sacrifice themselves. If there is no dedication on the pitch, if people are playing haphazardly today, when a special military operation is underway, when we are cut off from everywhere, then of course we should have heads from the shoulders," Gabulov said.
It will be recalled that the Russian national team played friendly matches with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in November, ending them with the same score of 0:0.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, legendary Spartak Moscow defender and Luhansk native Viktor Onopko expressed confidence that the Russian national team would play at the 2022 World Cup, where it would advance from the group stage.
