"The Little Mermaid" evoked different reactions among Ukrainians

The official trailer of the new film "The Little Mermaid" with a black actress Holly Bailey in the title role, the teaser of which half a year ago caused a scandalous reaction of fans of Disney fairy tales, was released. Ukrainians took the change of the canon loyally.

Judging by the comments, many viewers liked Holly Bailey's performance. However, sometimes negative comments on YouTube can also be found (to see photos and videos, scroll to the end of the page).

The scandal surrounding the new adaptation of "The Little Mermaid" broke out back in 2019, when it became known that the creators of the film departed from the canon - the heroine with fair skin with red hair and blue eyes. Critics subsequently forgot about the film until the first teaser was released in 2022.

It garnered a record number of dislikes and many negative comments for Disney. At the same time, a touching video of black children's reactions to their favorite character began to circulate online. Many of the negative viewers, realizing what such a change meant to them, did soften and change their minds.

The Ukrainian-language trailer garnered many positive comments, but canon fans can also be seen among the reviews.
