How to remove stains from an umbrella: fall life hacks

Sometimes it seems that there is no need to wash an umbrella because we use it in the rain and it can handle this task on its own. However, owners of light-colored accessories know that they can easily get stains. This means that the umbrella also needs regular cleaning.

OBOZ.UA asked how to do it correctly. Find out how and what to use to effectively clean the dome without damaging the mechanism.

The good news is that synthetic fabrics used to make umbrellas are easy to clean from stains, but you will have to wash the item manually. The best method to care for it is to soak it.

Take a basin large and deep enough to fit the entire dome of the open umbrella or use a bathtub. The water should be warm, no hotter than 40 degrees, and preferably somewhere around 30. Add detergent at the rate of a tablespoon per 5 liters and stir thoroughly.

Place the half-opened umbrella in this solution for 15 minutes and let it soak in soapy water. When the soaking is complete, open the umbrella completely and wipe the dome with a sponge or cloth, paying special attention to areas with stains. Do not apply too much pressure to avoid damaging the fabric or bending the spokes. Then rinse the open umbrella in the bathroom or shower until the foam stops dripping. Then leave the accessory to dry.

If this method does not remove the stains, dilute 1 tablespoon of ammonia in 150 ml of water and use a cotton pad to treat the stains with this solution. They should come off quickly enough. Keep in mind that you cannot clean the umbrella canopy with chlorine bleach.

However, rust stains that sometimes appear where the spokes touch the fabric can be removed with lemon juice or a citric acid solution. The contaminated areas are soaked with the liquid and then treated with steam from a steam cleaner or iron.
