How to remove grease and limescale from a kitchen hood

Yulia PoteriankoLife
You can safely clean the hood with home remedies

The hood becomes dirty faster than any other kitchen appliance. It gets all the splashes, grease drops, and soot. Therefore, it needs regular cleaning. It's also better not to delay it so that cleaning is as easy as possible.

Experts advise regular cleaning of the hood at least once a week. OBOZ.UA shares what products will come in handy.

Baking soda

This tool can enhance the effect of any soap that you use to clean the hood, such as dishwater. To do this, take a large bowl, fill it with very hot water, dissolve a few drops of detergent and a quarter cup of baking soda in it, and then place the grease filter in the solution. Soak the item for 10 minutes, and then scrub it thoroughly with a stiff brush or the abrasive side of a sponge. Then rinse, dry, and replace it. If the dirt on the filter is very stubborn, you can boil it in this solution over low heat for a while.

Laundry soap

This product will clean the hood filter without harsh chemicals. However, this method will take a little time. To use laundry soap, pour 2-2.5 liters of water into a large bowl and rub half a bar of the product into it. Next, put the mixture on the stove and heat it, stirring until the soap dissolves in the water. Soak the filter in the still-hot solution for 10-15 minutes, and then clean it mechanically. Grease should easily come off the object. If necessary, add a few tablespoons of baking soda to enhance the effect of the soap. You can also use baking soda as an abrasive to remove grease particles from the grate.

Vinegar

Acetic acid is very effective in the fight against grease. Simply mix white vinegar with water in a 1:1 ratio and soak the range hood filter for 15 minutes. If the dirt on the filter is stubborn, you don't need to dilute the vinegar. To enhance the effect, you can clean the grille with baking soda after soaking.

Lemon

Citric acid is also effective against grease. Therefore, the hood filter can be cleaned with a halved lemon. Simply take a half and rub the contaminated object thoroughly with the slice. Press down on the fruit so that it releases a little juice. Then rinse off the residue with warm water. If you don't want to spend money on a whole lemon, you can use citric acid to clean the filter. Dilute 3-4 sachets of the product in 2 liters of water and soak the hood parts in the solution overnight.
