How to properly use and care for non-stick pans: some useful tips
Frying pans are a very necessary item in the kitchen, but very often hostesses do not take care of them properly, which greatly shortens their life span. Improper care is something that can ruin even a new frying pan. It is very important to know that not all detergents are suitable for washing, for example, non-stick pans.
FoodOboz editors share with you useful tips on how to properly use and care for nonstick pans, so that they do not make the food cooked in them dangerous.
1. How to clean a new frying pan for the first time
A new pan should be cleaned exclusively with a non-abrasive detergent, a soft sponge, and warm water. It's worth noting that this rule applies to any newly purchased cookware. After wiping the pan with a dry paper towel, grease the dry pan with sunflower or olive oil, and you can cook food.
2. Non-stick pans should not be washed with hot or very cold water
Hot water can damage the non-stick coating, so avoid sudden temperature changes when washing the pan. This also applies to cold water! Also important - you can't wash a hot frying pan that you've just taken off the fire. Allow it to cool and then wash it with warm water and a suitable detergent.
3. No metal scrapers should be used
They will immediately ruin the coating of the pan. Use only soft sponges for nonstick pans.
4. Do not use metal forks, spoons or other accessories when cooking
You should only use silicone and wooden spatulas, and anything that won't scratch the surface.
5. Do not leave cooked food in the frying pan and especially do not keep food in the refrigerator
Food that you have cooked in a non-stick frying pan must not be left in it, but must be transferred to a suitable dish after cooking. It is also important to know that under no circumstances should you put the pan with the food in the refrigerator, because the low temperature will damage the non-stick coating. The frying pan is only intended for cooking.
6. How to store pans properly
They should not be stacked on top of each other, as this can lead to small scratches. To prevent this from happening, there should be a separate place for the pan in the kitchen, and to avoid damage, cover the pans with sheets of paper or baking parchment.
