How to open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew: popular methods

A pleasant evening with friends and a bottle of wine can only be ruined by the absence of a corkscrew. But inventive people have come up with and successfully tested several life hacks that can help you open a bottle using improvised materials.

You can open the bottle with a self-tapping screw and pliers, which, in principle, are not always at hand. OBOZREVATEL has collected the top life hacks with step-by-step instructions that will replace a corkscrew in an emergency.

Method 1: Knife or key

1. Take a bottle of wine; make sure there is no corkscrew nearby.
2. Remove the label from the top of the cork.
3. Using a knife or key, gently push the cork inward. It is important to twist the cork at a 50° angle and not make sudden movements.

Method 2: Screw or pliers

1. If you have a self-tapping screw or pliers, you can try this old-fashioned method. But note that you will need physical strength. Insert the screw into the cork so that it protrudes 1.5-2 cm from the surface.
2. Take a pair of pliers, grab the screw, and pull it toward you to remove the cork.
3. Instead of pliers, a nail gun will do. This life hack can be used only for young wines with a reliable hard cork.

Method 3: The towel

With this method, the cork will fly out of the bottle on its own, but there is a risk of damage to the bottle. Wrap the bottle in a towel and tap the bottom of the bottle against the wall until the cork pops off under pressure.

Method 4: Heating effect

1. Also a risky method, but effective. Turn on the stove, take a bottle of wine, and remove the label from the cork.
2. Hold the bottle by the neck, bring it to the stove, and hold it over warm air. Wine can explode when exposed to too high temperatures. However, if you do everything carefully and correctly, the cork will soon "fly out" of the bottle.

Method 5: Another bottle

1. You don't necessarily need two bottles of wine. An ordinary 1.5-liter bottle of still water will do.
2. Holding the wine horizontally, lightly tap the bottom of the bottle with a plastic bottle until the cork comes off.

Method 6: Nail scissors

1. After disinfecting the nail scissors with alcohol, insert one blade in the middle of the cork and the other on the side. You should get a design that looks a bit like a compass.
2. The scissors should enter the cork about ½ of the way through. Gently scroll until the cork falls through the bottle.

Method 7: Sharp heels

1. If you have shoes with very thin and sharp heels, you can use them to open a bottle of wine.
2. After disinfecting the heel, insert it into the cork and try to push it inside.
